Statesmen rain 3s on Hawks, win 72-60

ONEONTA, N.Y.-–The backcourt tandem of junior guards Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) and Joe Virgilio (Wheatley/East Williston, N.Y.) combined for 27 points to lead Hobart to a 72-60 non-conference victory over Hartwick tonight.

The Statesmen (10-7) trailed 17-15 midway through the opening half, but Virgilio sparked a 12-0 run with 10 of his 13 points, all of which came in the first half. Hobart led 37-29 at the break and by as many as 19 in the second stanza.

Feane made 9-of-16 field goals, including 6-of-9 from three-point range to pace the Statesmen with 24 points. Virgilio connected on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, as Hobart knocked down 10-of-16 as a team.

Senior forward Joe Flacke (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) registered his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) added 11 points for Hobart.

Freshman swingman Greg Betancourt led the Hawks (2-16) with 17 points.

The Statesmen return to the hardwood at 8 p.m., on Feb. 4, when they travel to Union College for a Liberty League contest.
